whiteguilt

Only two members, and I am ONE. Guess I should post...

I am aware that everything I am attracted to, spiritual paths, clothing, etc. originates with a community of color. In fact, standard "Wicca" isn't colorful enough. I look into things more tribal, more colorful. Shamanism has my attention right now.

I am not a voracious reader. I am too busy ingesting, realigning, redefining myself.

I have a tighter sense of 'community' via books than actual peers out there, however. Well, and our family. The kids. Nearly grown...

Show up to a CLASS on Shamanism, and everyone there is white, middle-aged, female... Does it occur to any of them this is odd? We are expressing a kind of 'white flight' away from ourselves?

IN any case, I am currently working on a year-long trek, to 'build my own Inner Totem".

Interesting.

<-----Native American
I kinda scanned your bio --- especially for your alluding to being Native American. Are your parents --- are you full blooded? Raised in the culture?

You are our younger son's age, 19. He'll turn 20 in July. Our daughter will turn 16 in a couple weeks. (Oldest son is 23.)

I'm glad you like my posts. Nothing much gets said on 'white guilt' LJ, does it?

I quit the Shamanism class some months ago. Around New Year's I mustered the courage to contact some people from our local Native American Spiritual alliance, some actual Native Americans, not us 'wanna be's' who just seem to collect 'gimmicky' artifacts, to 'play Indian' for the novelty of it all...

I contacted them, two people, but only by phone. For assorted reasons, I haven't met either one yet, even though they live locally.

Anyway, I'm still searching and pondering...

alluding?? lol!!

My mom is 85% (her mom is foolblood, her dad is half irish half Indian.) She was raised in her culture. My dad is half Indian half white.

I am an enrolled member. I was raised on the "rez"
You grew up, went to school, everything else, on a reservation?

You moved away from home, now?

INTERESTING.
Do you have an instant messenger?
I don't sit at the computer much for any duration. I have aol --- only that --- I don't do yahoo, or other options for IMing.

Okay, Well.

my tribe (Lumbee) has 54,000 members and 80% roughly live within my county. I went to an all Indian school with all indian teachers, staff, prinicipal everything!!

Um..we had maybe 10 out of the whole school who were non-native and I come from a family who "Miss Lumbees" and was greatly raised in my culture.

I still live here and attend our tribal college (First native american college in the country which is now a university)
